Icelandair provides excellent transportation choices to Iceland and beyond from the United States and Europe. Average flight time is 4.5 hours.
Buses are an excellent means of transport for getting around Iceland. Adults' single fares only cost around $1.50 US and the buses run every 20 minutes. There are also various 'passes' available for traveling long distances or for regular travelers.
Taxicabs charge a standard fares and you pay what is on the meter at the end of the journey. Tipping is not expected. Most taxi stations in Reykjavik and Akureyri offer city sightseeing tours as well as tours outside the city to places of interest. Most tours offer English-speaking chauffeur guides.
Within Iceland itself, there is an extensive bus service which runs to most parts of the country. Reservations are not needed and tickets can be bought at the bus station or from the driver. Iceland is easy to navigate and is easily accessible by car.
