New York: Getting around

Apart from a few anomalies in the grid system, New York City is easy to navigate. Public transportation is efficient, relatively cheap and virtually crime free. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (718-330-1234) runs the subways and buses, as well as services to points outside Manhattan.

For a full list of transportation services between the city and its three airports, call 800-AIR-RIDE (800-247-7433). Private bus services are usually the best budget option while licensed cabs operate a system of set fees to key locations.
