No matter what your budget there is no shortage of culinary delights in Nice. Do not miss the specialties such as 'Pissaladieres' - little tarts of onion, anchovy and olive, 'Salade Nicoise' and the fabulous local seafood.
Don Camillo (5 rue des Ponchettes. Phone: 04 93 85 67 95) This is one of the best places to sample the local gourmet cuisine. Chef Stéphane Viano uses produce bought that morning from the local market and varies the menu accordingly. Considering the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff, it is not wildly expensive.
Chez Pipo (13 rue Bavastro. Phone: 04 93 55 88 82) This is a fun place near the port to catch the local color. Everybody sits at long tables to enjoy 'socca', a cake made of garbanzo flour cooked over an open fire.
Nisa la Bella (6 rue Sainte-Reparate. Phone: 04 93 62 10 20) Make sure you are really hungry before you come to try the affordable taste of the local Provencale dishes.
La Civette (1 Cours Saleya. Phone: 04 93 80 80 59) Join the locals on the terrace commenting on the passers by on their way into the flower market. Enjoy a café crème made with half coffee and half hot milk with a big crumbly croissant.
Baud et Millet (29 rue Benoit-Bunico. Phone: 04 93 13 07 83) This is a cheese-lover's delight. Choose your wine upstairs then head downstairs to one of the vaulted stone cellars to enjoy it with one of the traditional French dishes. The 50 or so cheeses used in their preparation are kept in perfect condition in one of the other cellars.
