Paris is one of those great cities that feels familiar to everybody. The Eiffel Tower, the romantic strolls by the banks of the Seine, the great restaurants and cozy bistros are all here.
But for every familiar scene there is one to surprise you. Stunning classical buildings are matched by breathtaking modern architecture. The Mona Lisa in the Louvre is just a few minutes away from Mickey Mouse and his European home at Disneyland.
Shopping runs the gamut from classy department stores and haute couture boutiques to dozens of street markets, each with their own specialty. Just follow your nose to work out what they are.
Most of all though, Paris is about people. And there is no greater pleasure than watching them go by, whether from the terrace of a little café or from one of the city's numerous parks. It's pure bliss.
When To Go
The main tourist season runs from May through September. However there is no such thing as a bad time to visit Paris. August is when many locals escape from the heat of the city and many offices and restaurants close down. This gives the place a relaxed air, which may be lacking at other times. May and June is when the climate is at its most pleasant, but the average high temperature never passes 75 degrees Fahrenheit and snow is infrequent.
