With its sophisticated young population, proximity to the ocean and varied ethnic mix, Seattle's dining scene is dynamic. Whatever style of food you want, at whatever budget, you'll find something to suit you.
Zeitgeist (161 Jackson Street) The caffeine culture may have begun in Seattle. As a result you're never more than a few seconds away from a cappuccino, not that quantity necessarily means quality. Zeitgeist's good-looking baristas know their business. Amidst the bare brick and stained wood, the atmosphere is warmer than you might expect.
The Madison Park Café (1807 42nd Ave E. Phone: (206) 324-2626) This is the upscale place for weekend brunch, but buy your Sunday newspaper first. You'll need something to read while you wait in line for a table outside. The inventive blintzes and omelets have kept the smart regulars coming back for over 20 years. In the evening it serves classic French bistro food.
Palisade (2601 W Marina Pl. Phone: (206) 285-1000) When locals have an event to celebrate, this is the place they head for. About 10-minutes drive from downtown, every table has a panoramic view of Elliot Bay, the Olympic Mountains and the city skyline. That's not to forget the dining room's 50-foot long bridge suspended over a tidal pool. The food is American and Polynesian with, of course, an emphasis on seafood.
Red Mill Burgers (312 N 67th St. Phone: (206) 783-6362) Since 1994 Red Mill Burgers has been re-inventing fast food. The choice is amazing. Best beef or low-fat veggie, toppings of blue cheese or flame-roasted peppers, great rings, milkshakes like they used to be, this will satisfy kids of all ages.
Metropolitan Grill (820 2nd Ave. Phone: (206) 624-3287). While this might not have the views enjoyed by some of the waterfront eateries, the Met more than makes up for that with the quality of the food. This is not the place to come if you're a veggie, but if you like steak cooked exactly the way you want it, then you should join Seattle's power brokers here.
