Situated in a natural basin at the foot of the Sella massif, surrounded by numerous peaks that all have their own unique shape but still have the characteristic jagged shape of the Dolomites, Alta Badia offers its visitors a multitude of appearances.
It is certainly the kingdom of the bold peaks that incite adventure, but it is also an enchanted land where the mountains are tinged with pink at dusk and where there is an aura of mystery and magic. Here you can isolate yourself for hours at a time immersed in this unspoilt beauty following the footprints of history. Alternatively, you can dedicate your day to sport or simply to relaxation.
You will love Alta Badia, the fatherland of the Ladin people, the most ancient Raetoroman population of the alpine range, differing not only in language but also in its proud, secular tradition of agriculture and crafts.
The summer months offer the prime opportunity for seeing some of Alta Badia's fantastic scenery. Explore the vast and varied beauty of our valley along the many routes in Alta Badia, from the leisurely, sun-blessed walks in the lower valley to the challenge of the most remote farmhouses, climbs and Vie Ferrate (iron-ladder mountain walk ways).
Although shopping may not be everyone's perfect way to spend their holidays, in Alta Badia shopping is not only a pastime but also a great way to get to know the Ladin culture. The many specialist food shops are well stocked with typical and genuine products from the region, including speck, salami, cheese, jam, and fruits of the forest grappas. The artistic handicraft shops are also worth a visit. In them you will find typical handmade cloths and sculptures. The sportswear shops, which are an old tradition, offer a complete range of high quality products and, more importantly, advice and assistance from qualified staff.
