The best way to explore South Tyrol is to rent a car and drive around the picturesque valleys at your leisure. You can find car rental companies at all airports and in the capital city, Bolzano. There is also a very good bus system in the Dolomites. There are a number of different leisure passes available to ensure you can enjoy all of the pleasures of the Dolomites while keeping an eye on the cost.
Altapusteria offers a Guestcard which makes perfect sense for people traveling with family. This card allows visitors to enjoy all leisure activities the region has to offer - including museums, sporting facilities and bus connections. The card is valid for 7 days from the day it is first used and can only be used once a day at each participating venue. The Guestcard costs €35 per person. Family cards can be purchased for €87.50. Children under 6 years can be admitted to participating venues free and children between 6-15 years will receive a 50% discount off the normal entry fee. Guestcards can be bought from local tourist offices.
You can also make full use of your time in Val Gardena without making full use of your wallet! For only €40,00, you can buy Gardena cards which offer you free and unlimited use of all chair and cabin lifts as well as scheduled bus services. Cards can be bought from Val Gardena tourist offices and at most of the hotels in the region.
South Tyrol is in northern Italy and is very easy to get to. Closest airports within one hour to the capital are Verona and Innsbruck airports. Many of the popular European low-cost airlines also fly within reach of South Tyrol. Airports which the low-cost airlines fly to are Milan Bergamo and Treviso.
